Heat Me

Heat Me

The ORA is an interesting radiator heat concept meant to be portable enough to move around, but for the ultimate in portability, a removable sleeve can provide ample heat around your neck when needed. The radiator itself has a simple clock-timer feature and the whole package looks quite fetching no?

At Once Collection At Once!

At Once Collection At Once!

The following is a short exploration of three separate bits of furniture from the fabulous design group known as “At-Once!” The objects we’re about to look at go by the name Glorify, Diamond, and Dinoz, being an armchair, a table, and a desktop accessory, respectively. Each of these items is meant to represent a feeling of greatness: the armchair being of royal essence, the table being cut with the recollection of classically carved furniture that was precious stone studded, and the Dinoz is pure fun – being made for anything from Chia-pet garden enjoyment to artist-minded pencil holder.

Perfect Balance in Time

Perfect Balance in Time

When you’re looking at your watch on your wrist, you want to know what time it is. But more than that, you want your whole life to be in order in that one moment. You want all the yin and all the yang to be perfectly spun. That’s why it’s imperative that you see that the first moment you peek at the machine on the strap on the piece of your body below your hand. This is the “Yin Yang” watch designed by the fabulous Daniel Will – Harris, known for his crazy, amazing, and fantastic watch collection, several of which are jumping off the shelves of our Yanko Store. Slap one directly unto your wrist.

Salt for Illumination

Salt for Illumination

Designer Roberto Tweraser has taken that fantastically tasty bit of seasoning you put on everything from spaghetti to soup and turned it into a set of fabulous looking lamps! That’s right, sea salt! Combining only sea salt and a synthetic binder, Tweraser creates here a shade for pendant lamps that are smooth on the outside, unfinished on the in. Unfinished on the inside so that the refractory properties of the salt from the sea can be seen! Such a lovely usage of a naturally beautiful thing!

HTC Diamond 3 (but not made of them)

HTC Diamond 3 (but not made of them)

Through two iterations of the Diamond series, and there hasn’t been a nary of “diamond-esque” qualities to the lineup. The unique carved back of the original Diamond was the closest we ever got, so designer Sylvain Gerber envisaged a design worthy of the gem’s brilliance; the Diamond 3. Android equipped with the latest tech hardware but the “shine” is really in the case. You could blind someone with this bling.

On The Level

On The Level

There seems to be a call to arms within the furniture design community about mass produced commodities. To them I say, exclusive furniture seems a bit “old fashioned.” We can embrace modernity without losing the soul such as the case with Spanish manufacturer AG Land 14. I absolutely love their pieces. The design is strong and machine manufacturing has only helped it with precision engineering.

Disposing The Dead Fly

Disposing The Dead Fly

So you swatted the fly, now how are you going to dispose its body? Pick it up with a tissue paper you say! Nay! Dare you waste the paper! I’ll give you a better tool, the swatter itself! The weapon itself becomes the disposer; how cool ‘n creepy. A niche in the swatter lets you pick the dead fly with precision and dispose it in the bin. Yes! Swatter; awesome!

Tea Coffin Revisited With More Friends

Tea Coffin Revisited With More Friends

Reminding me about the Tea Coffin is this project called the Te a me. However, designer Vera’s efforts are more comprehensive and take into account a kettle and jug system as well. For the cup and saucer, of course the burial ground for the teabag is there and so is a clever nip in the cup, to desist your bag from sinking into the tea. The complementing water jug can be placed directly on the stove for brewing the cuppa, or can be used as a kettle. The thermo magnetic saucer lets you serve piping hot water directly at the table.

Alarm Compass For Aiding Evacuation

Alarm Compass For Aiding Evacuation

Last Sunday I was at this theatre watching a movie and all of a sudden the lights went out. Pitch dark, even the damn emergency exit sign on the doors quit working. Although it wasn’t an emergency situation, just a normal power trip, I dread to imagine what would have happened if we really needed to evacuate. Scenes like this sound horrifying, but you do need a reliable system to sound out directions or visually guide you through. The Compass Alert System is one such aid that plays an audio track and indicates the direction you should be heading towards.

Little Birdy Architect

Little Birdy Architect

Who knew that a tiny little beak-and-feathers could create such a thing as this “Niao” eggshell home. It’s too good to be true! Non-avian human designer Fuquan Junze hath created this. It’s 150mm in length, weighs a tiny 86g, and is made entirely of fiberglass mat. Junze describes the art of architecture as one that “places light, wind, and heat all together in space.” What a brilliantly simple way of putting it, then putting it out into the world with this amazing work of transparency.

On Gulls Wings

On Gulls Wings

As a bridge sits above a body of water, so too must it respect and fear such a dangerous yet life-giving mass. Moreno Ratti of Cactus Design understands this and presents thusly a bit of bridge architecture that’s as naturally integrated with the water as the birds that fly above it. This is the “Gulle,” a symbol meant to represent the seagull and harness its winged power to deal with the turbulence whipping against, around, below and on top of the bridge on a day-to-day basis.

Battery Time Included

Battery Time Included

Let’s discuss the pieces of a clock, shall we? There’s the front, which has at least one hand, then more than likely 12 tics around the edge to show the hour. Between the front and the back there is a mechanism which turns the clock hand or hands, then on the back this mechanism reveals itself to either be activated by winding, socket power, or battery. What if this perfectly tiny amount of elements could be reduced even further? Designer Giha Woo thinks so, taking away completely the tics on the front, replacing the hands of the clock with the batteries that run it!
