Alarm Clocks Are So Redundant….

Alarm Clocks Are So Redundant….

It’s time to move on and discard phone alarms and clocks! This is the new age people; we need cooler and hipper gear like this Alarm Pillow! It gently vibrates at the given hour, to wake you up with a buzz. And if you don’t get out of the bed, your head-weight acts as the snooze trigger. How awesome is that! The label-trigger is clever and fitting, I so need this for my sleepyhead daughter!

Chompers on Laundry

Chompers on Laundry

Fish Tank of Eternal Life

Fish Tank of Eternal Life

Designer Rob Maslin would like us all to think of the following phrase while looking at his project (in this post) and while going about creating industrial designs for the rest of our conscious lives: There is no such thing as sustainable product, only the by-products of a sustainable system. To be sustainable, first we must establish a close-loop system and the carrying capacity, then the system must be managed and not over- or under-consumed.” Thusly Maslin presents an aquaponic project by the name of “Free Lunch.” It’s an office-based fishtank with a loop of production and two sources of food.

Teaset of Istanbul

Teaset of Istanbul

When I heard the title of this project “Morgenland” I immediately thought of “Zombieland,” but this is a much more relaxed situation. No zombies here, especially if this tea set does the caffeine trick. This teaset, or tea service, was inspired by a visit by the designer to Istanbul – Zitta Schnitt speaks of the magnificent mosques these lovely bits of porcelain are aiming to represent. Elements so delicate they’re only perceptible through hands-on experience, this set contains a teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl, dessert plate, cup, and saucer.

Simple Smile Can Set Things Right

Simple Smile Can Set Things Right

“Simply use the emotional expression to remind and educate users to turn off the light.”

This one line says it all….moreover the cute switches create the desired impact of reminding us to conserve. I guess this is another angle to Product Design: to be instinctive without being preachy!

Sinking Tub! Really!

Sinking Tub! Really!

Expect your bath to sink or spill or whatever it is that comes to your mind! The idea behind the Shore Tub is to give you a complete spa experience, with massages and jets of water giving you the complete service. What makes the tub different from the herd is its unique elevation system. One end of it simply spills onto the floor so that people with restrictive movements need not “climb out”, but walk out of it. I’m sure it will help in avoiding nasty slips and falls! Plus the workings look do-able as well.

Crystal Wrist

Crystal Wrist

Let me continue our legacy here on Yanko of presenting completely amazing, strange, and weird, with this “Retro-Futurism” timepiece from designer Carson Leong. It’s a digital timepiece that “celebrates the magical properties of fused fibre optics.” I couldn’t have said it more wonderful myself. The watch has its top glass (Sapphire crystal) replaced by fused fibre optic with 12 facets, each of the 12 representing one hour of the day. When turned off, the watch becomes a unique fashion accessory with a black gem (the optic) at the helm.

Enjoyment in Heavy Times

Enjoyment in Heavy Times

When you’ve got a heavy time, a time when you’ve got any sort of situation and add a kid to it. Put a kid in any situation and you’ve got a complete emergency 100% of the time. So what do you need to do? You need to give that kid a toy. And since your entire life is an emergency because you’ve got a kid, you need an Emergency Toy. This is the “E-Toy” and it’s made for parents who are traveling with their small children on trains, buses or planes where only the hand luggage is allowed.

Interchangeable Lampshades

Interchangeable Lampshades

Take a peek at these lovely lamps designed by Sebastian Herkner. They’re known as “Bell Light” and they’ve got lampshades that can be changed back and forth between lamps, one each of copper, steel, and textile. Each of them is changeable to influence the atmosphere, temperature, and color of the light. Use them in many fabulous ways – this luminaire is inspired by spotlights and reflectors and looks swell hung from the ceiling or propped up on a stand like what’s shown in the gallery below. Especially nice if you’ve got a need for special directed light.

Music By The Window

Music By The Window

Eclipse is a media player that uses the photovoltaic cells on its backside to draw in solar power and sticks onto the window via a suction cup. As expected of any “good media player”, this one too features Bluetooth connectivity to steam in music from your MP3 player or catch weather updates, podcasts & radio. The speakers are built-in but the cutest aspect to the design is the compartment to hold your music device. It resembles the compartment used in cassette tape players from yester-years; the evident “eject” button et all!

Glam Pack For Blood

Glam Pack For Blood

The Sweet Donation Bag is an attempt to redesign the blood collection pouch. It features a sleeve with large cut-outs indicating the blood type (A, B, AB & O). The overall design is much more refined than the current bags in use and the packaging looks sturdy. If only the cut-outs would have indicated Type+ or Type- then I guess the impact would have been better. Slicker and tidier to look at; it won’t reduce the needle-prick pain!

A Desk of Transformers

A Desk of Transformers

Behold the transformable desk for creative persons, Kkanapètko. In the description we received from the designer, Krassi Dimitrov, I thought I read “crazy persons” and immediately got excited. Turns out it really is “creative persons,” but when it comes down to it, I know because I am one, creative persons and crazy persons are often one in the same. And speaking as a crazy creative, I say right now, this is a wonderful desk. Tiny when closed, one or two comfortable modes when in action, Kkanapètko go!
