“Simply use the emotional expression to remind and educate users to turn off the light.”
This one line says it all….moreover the cute switches create the desired impact of reminding us to conserve. I guess this is another angle to Product Design: to be instinctive without being preachy!
The Smile Switches won a Liteon Award this year.
Designers: Zhou Yide, Euphe Mo, Hang Zhou & Christine Liu
These days there is more emphasis on the use as well as the design of the product. The product that's quite useful but a little less attractive in its look is less likely to be selected over its counterpart that's more attractive while not that useful. The designs of the switches are quite magnificent and would just enhance the look of the wall.

Thats pretty neat. But could be hard to get used to because normally the "up" position on a lightswitch is on, while "down" is off. On these it seems to be the opposite.

I like the design but i would have to agree with Mark Szymanski and then i would have to ask – how often do you actually take a look at your switch's?

These are well cute, I think this has the potential to make me smile in the morning as apposed to wince away from the bright light (maybe maybe not!)

Turn off the lights and everything goes dark…can't see the smile.
