Fold Up Plastic City Bike

Bike maestro designer Omer Sagiv has another treat for us all. This one goes by the name “ReCycle Me” and is a fold-up plastic city bike. Created using only recycleable moulded plastic, its potential impact on the environment is minimal. It features a single gear system for all you new-age bikers and those with no money for maintenance and a dynamo for powering the lights. Then using the full advantage of injection moulding technology, the bike has front, rear, and inbuilt seat suspensions.

Jacob’s Ladder Storage

You know those little ladders, the ones made of wood held together with strips of material in a way that if you hold one up, another one goes *cluck cluck cluck* all the way down to the bottom? Well here’s something sort of kind of like that, but this one’s a lot less cluck and a lot more flexible storage solution for the modern home. “Maroma” modular furniture as it’s called is made of plywood and cotton straps, made so that the user is free to configure it however’s most convenient (or fun) for them. Heck, it’d be impossible not to have fun with these. I dare you.

Sound Balls!

Here is a sweet alternative to hearing your music on the go, The Ecoball! The portable ball splits into two to reveal speakers and a volume controller. The beauty is that you have the option of solar charging it via the panels integrated into the carry strap. And of course it syncs with your gadget effortlessly to play bombastic music! Definitely picnic material!

Pour Me Some Light

Human actions play such a significant role in design; it’s either evident in the form or in the function. In the Pouring Light, the action is evident in the form and is delightfully executed as well! With the motive of giving off “an emotional flow of light”, the lights linger on with a mesmerizing effect thanks to the use of phosphorescence in the “water” part. Yeongwoo suggests the use of LED lights to conserve energy, and my suggestion to him: get this in the market ASAP!

Visually Impaired with Fine Hands

A new dimension of sightless awareness equipment. This is the “VIA” Visually Impaired Assistant, a pair of hand-centric devices to make the day of a visually impaired person a whole lot easier. These devices use VMD Video Motion Detection technologies, 4 mini cameras, and a voice operated GPS receiver, all to act as both a walking stick and a mapping system. All the while looking rather fabulous on the hands as sensually molded pieces of jewelry (or “super heavy-duty metal equipment” if you’re too masculine for that sensual “J” word.)

Clocks, since the sundial, have had that one glaring obstacle they’ve had to hop over: darkness. The sundail’s basically useless, and half the rest of the clocks in the world are pretty close to it. But then there’s the light-up clock. Since we humans set our minds on wanting to work 24 hours a day, we’ve been trying to light up the time. Let me show you the latest in attempts to do that: a clock by Saravanan Nagasundaram, an exercise in both illumination and simplicity.

3-D Braille Map That Talks

The Brainovi is a Braille navigation map that uses a combination of verbal instructions and touch display, to help a blind person travel alone. All he needs to do is ‘speak’ his destination into the device and wait for a 3-D map to pop-up, giving him a ‘feel’ of his route. Corresponding verbal directions are relayed to the user via a Bluetooth earpiece, thus guiding him to his destination. The overall effect is to give the user a sense of freedom while traveling alone, without depending upon a companion.

Musical Plants

The Muse musical vase serenades you with sweet harmonies every time you wind it up. Like a music box but instead of a ballerina, it’s your favorite plant. Kind of reminds me of those plastic sunflowers with sunglasses that would dance when the sun hit them. Almost similar but this is much prettier to look at. Look how happy the models are. They are absolutely thrilled with their singing plants.

Should We Watch Out Or Not?

And that is my question to you this Monday Morning. Do you want to be forewarned about a broken-down car with a holographic “Watch Out – Warning Triangle” beaming at you from a distance, when driving? Or do you think it will be a distraction and a hazard? The idea is simple….holographic red triangle projected from a distance, warning you of a stalled car ahead in the lane. Some may argue it being an eerie Potter-esque sign on the freeway; others may call it helpful. Take your pick!

On the now-defunct television comedy series “Kids in the Hall,” actor Dave Foley, playing a bad doctor, said, “There are specialists who have their whole career based on my referrals!” He was making fun of the idea. For Apple, it’s dead serious. Hundreds and thousands of people have made their career of making Apple-compatible products. Some of them aren’t the best, but then there’s those that stand out and do more than justice to the products they accessorize – this is one of em.
