Timed Morning Bowel Movements

Timed Morning Bowel Movements

You may be wondering what this glass-alarm has to do with your morning bowel routine. First off, a warm glass of water as soon as you wake up is the perfect way to start your day. It helps in detoxing your body and gets your bowels moving. So there! now to establish relation with the “Revive Glass”…it’s an alarm clock that holds a glass of water. Half hour before your alarm is to go off, the base starts warming up the water, so that you drink it warm enough. The alarm shuts off only when you pick up the glass of water. I totally dig the time being read thru water! Looks awesome!

World's Largest Wristbound Curve

World’s Largest Wristbound Curve

When you’ve got a watch on your wrist, you’re constantly saying something about yourself. That’s changed since the beginning of watches. When wrist watches were first invented, you definitely said something about your identity when you wore one. Then there was a long period when everyone had one – it was standard to have one. Now, in this age of pocket-sitting clocks on mobile phones, again the age of wrist clock fashion is born. Curve ID knows this.

Beirut's Most Fabulous Wine Bar

Beirut’s Most Fabulous Wine Bar

I don’t generally like to rate a restaurant or bar without having been there to taste their rootbeer, but this looks amazing. This is “Burgundy” wine bar/restaurant, Beirut – Lebanon. Look at those lights! Hanging near wooden beams that slice through a wire mesh covering the ceiling, these light objects are made up of conical tubes filling a hypothetical spherical area. Under the lights, a substructure divided into one area for the bar and another for dining.

No Mo Bear Foam

No Mo Bear Foam

Wha? But doesn’t that mean it’s good? The foam? Well, I’d hope your beer’d have at least a little foam, but nay! You want smooth, tasty, liquid beer, not beer in bubble form. So what do you do? You tip your glass at an angle while you pour the beer inside. Now… what if the beer glass was already tipped, erasing that step in between you, your drink, and that perfect moment when it hits your lips?

Electrolux Design Lab: The Final Countdown

Electrolux Design Lab: The Final Countdown

We have been tracking the Top 25 of Electrolux Design Lab entries here on YD and now it’s time to reveal the Final Eight. The booty at the end of the rainbow for the deserving winner will be 5000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at the Electrolux Global Design Center. Every young designer who is just starting out knows that adding this internship to his resume is going to carry a lot of weight. While I wish all the 8 finalists best of luck, I’d also like to remind the YD readers that I’ve written in detail about 4 of these designs earlier, and pretty soon I’ll be covering the rest, just to know your views.

Now That's A Spicy Egg

Now That’s A Spicy Egg

Designer Mike Flache has a wonderful aesthetic and a pleasing sense of humor. The Spice Egg is a magnetic salt cellar and pepper pot made of stainless chromium steel. Inspired by hundreds of mouth watering breakfasts around the world, he transformed the natural shape of a simple egg into a stylish accessory. Magnets in each section of the egg stick together and makes handling comfortable.

A Simplified Sink

A Simplified Sink

As some designers seem intent on inundating sinks with complicate gadgetry, others are taking a simpler approach. The Flow is a sink with the tap, basin and u-bend integrated into just two pieces. In the quest to create something harmonious yet functional, the Flow is an example of when “less is more” might be better.

Redefining The Home Office

Redefining The Home Office

I work from home and as many may have seen I have an open desk in a secluded room. Not all working-from-home people are blessed like me to have a private office within the house. Many have to use their bedrooms or living rooms as their work area. In such homes, the office desk tends to be a complete misfit amongst the backdrop. The Buro can help redefine the office-home boundaries. It’s a desk that is perfect for your work, but once you shut the cover down, it transforms into an elegant side table. Clever!

Firefighter's Bread Crumbs

Firefighter’s Bread Crumbs

The job of a firefighter is diverse. They’ve got lots of tasks to take hold of, lots more than just blasting fire with water and the classic apprehending of tree’d cats. Sometimes they’ve gotta go on missions in the dark. Very often their job takes them through areas that’ve got little or no natural or artificial light, compounded by the fact that they work inside buildings, blocked sometimes from light completely. In these buildings, they’ve got to be able to find their way around, forward to the goal, and back home. It’s “Fire Line” to the rescue.

Vinyl Record Clocks of Many Shapes

Vinyl Record Clocks of Many Shapes

Now, before I begin explaining what’s going on here, I’ve got to say that this ISN’T the first time I’ve seen someone apply the clock idea to a vinyl record. But- but! This is the first time I’ve seen someone do it so masterfully. These clocks are laser-cut to shapes that are fantabulous, wild, and weird. There’s a gun, a bird, a coffee pot, whatever you desire. Now think about that, that’s three ideas smashed into one – clock, music platter, and a die roll of a third ingredient.

Make The Halo, Bike!

Make The Halo, Bike!

How safe is your bicycle out there in the wilderness? The city is full of bike thieves. Has been since the beginning of bikes. Completely full. So what are you going to do about it? Maybe… It’s the “Halo” bicycle lock, for holy protection!

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

We’ve all done it – count the minutes, miles and blocks before reaching home. Temporary respite from a long, hard day is one of the first things I look forward to as the sun goes down. Far From Home is a GPS enabled bracelet that gleefully (been dying to use that word) displays iconoglyphs denoting the distance to home. Oh and yea, it’s a watch too. Hey it glows! Mmm, pretty.
