Wet then Dry – Rack and Roll

Adaptation – that’s what this project is about. Designer Keith Xianrong Zheng presents “Diator Rack,” a research project based on the book: “Thoughtless Acts” by Jane Fulton Suri and IDEO. This is one of those fantastic senior projects that design students do, this one from Zheng, a student at Central Saint Martins – smart, well thought out, well executed. This one’s a rack which is super simple, sturdy, and heats up your clothing as it hangs up on the rack. Toasty!

This car right here goes by the name “AMV-R”, an acronym which stands for Automotive Visual Racing. And it’s fantastic. Your eyeballs are going to explode when you peek at the images in this post’s gallery, if you haven’t already. But then again, if you had already, you wouldn’t have eyes. Designer Alexei Mikhailov presents a spectacular vision that mixes Italian and German styling with an “exotic” and precise surface flow.

Skeletal Electrics on Two Wheels!

Oh my goodness, this is a shiny, sharp looking triad of motorcycle vehicles. Before you get down too far in the description, take note that the red and the black are diesel/electric engines while the gray is an electric only, working with the battery. Then below that in this project post’s gallery you’ll see the “shared” battery station, which is quite the looker and something I’d sure like to see in the real world for real. Lady Gaga, This One Is Because Of You

If you have a bone to pick with regards to the designing of the Hydra Piano, you better fight Lady Gaga then. Apostol Tnokovski was enjoying one of her performances on the telly, when he realized that the old, boxy piano was a misfit on her stage! Aghast, he took to the drawing board and came up with this unique, some-what flowing concept that looks stunning in pure glossy white or black. To make matters complicated, the inspiration also comes from the mythological sea monster “Hydra”. Wonder who would perform better on stage shows…monster Hydra Lady Gaga or the piano!

Smashing to look at, you’d be surprised to know what specs this beauty called Lightpool Phone posses. Designed by Hironao Tsuboi, the bedazzler features TFT Liquid Crystal display and 8.08 megapixels / CMOS camera. Crafted with a unique expressive edge, the phone comes to life with colorful lights that shimmer in sync with your tunes. The black and white version reminds me of the quaint cottages I saw on my last trip to Europe. If I were to pick, I’d go with the pink version…which one would you choose?

Winged Faucets of Love

This project goes by the name “Wings”, a faucet system that contains and distributes that lovely liquid on bird’s pride-like handles. Designer Kobi Kor presents a faucet with a lovely head. A new head, for a new world! A new world in the bathroom at least. The main mission for the Kor here was to enhance the pleasure of water, and thusly, with such lovely forms, Kor does just that. Uniqueness and a definite “looking at you” form produce a fabulous experience for any water lover.

Hooray for Cardboard!

This project has a fabulous title: “Can Cardboard Cut It?” That question mark means the whole project is a question for the consumer to answer. My answer, without even sitting on it, is a definite maybe. It’s a hundred percent recyclable, so that’s definitely a good start. Then it all fits together, the stool inside the chair. Two plusses in one! Then What a wonderful feature – it’s finished! Yes, there’s a lovely clear varnish painted over the entire two bits of furniture to enhance and protect.

The modular design makes each station future proof, allowing customers to easily upgrade as more options become available. Jello Cup, For Real

On June 26th, the Gowanus Studio Space hosted the 2nd annual Jell-O Mold competition in Brooklyn, New York. The competition encouraged artists, designers, chefs, and lovers of Jell–O to use gelatin in new and unexpected ways. A company called The Way We See The World won for sculptural/structural integrity with Jelloware – a set of delicious, squishy, colorful glasses.

My Toy Guardian

Teach those little rug rats to pick up after themselves by giving a simple toy chest an anthropomorphic identity. Toy Guardian is monster on wheels, hungry and ready to eat up all your toys but don’t worry, he’ll only keep them until you need them again. What a great way to teach kids (and adults like me) some important life skills. Not to mention this thing is uber cute and I want one!

Drawing on his own experience of working in a cycle shop and recreational cycling, Nick brings us a version that is easy on your posture, finds a new place to stash your load and aesthetically appealing. Innovations in oral hygiene usually come in the form of the toothbrush or the toothpaste; rarely is the issue of contamination addressed. Yeah, our bathrooms are filled with goop that can affect our health and sometimes they do take a ride to our system via the toothbrush. Most of us don’t fear this, but for those who care, Tocsy is your answer. What works in favor of this toothbrush sterilizer is that it hooks up to your computer via USB, for power. So no batteries and finding place for it in cramped bathrooms required.
