Prick of The Syrinx

Prick of The Syrinx

The Sphinx is an ancient mythological creature that sits around all fabulous looking with a feline body and a human head. The “Syrinx” is a cute little modern-day creature that helps kids out with getting their skin pricked for shots at the doctor. Specifically it’s made for reducing the fear children feel before taking a blood test. Aimed directly at kids aged 3 to 6 years, or for bigger kids, whoever likes cute thangs and fears the prick of the needle!

Food Storage Orchestra

Food Storage Orchestra

What better way to store your gobs and gobs of food than with a full band? This is the “Food Symphony” by Chow Pei Huan, Ho Wen Chi, and Chua Kai Ren, designing conceptually for Electrolux. In a way that, as far as I know, has never been done before, this big box can store food, and store it well. In individual storage units with adjustable temperature settings it stores, sensing the integrity of the food inside as it does so. This is the sort of thing you’ll wonder how you lived without.

Large Lovely Shipyard Taiwan

Large Lovely Shipyard Taiwan

This project goes by the title “Shipyard Taiwan.” As you probably have already guessed, it’s a Taiwanese shipyard, one that’s designed, planned, and visualized by Motion Code Blue. Built onto and into an existing u-shaped hall and production building for motor yachts, this project aims to add an office building, green and recreational spaces, and a showroom. And in the vein of near-impossible design requirements the world over, the commissioner asks MCB to give this project “landmark-like characteristics.” It’s sort of like saying “make it godly, please.”

Chaos Theory For Books

Chaos Theory For Books

How do you arrange your bookshelf? Fat to thin, tall to short? Horizontal, vertical….so many ways to do one thing; filling up the bookshelf! On my shelf chaos theory rules; no matter how neatly I arrange it, the order of books get all jumbled up after I’ve pulled out a couple for reading. “Need Not Arrange Anymore” brings art to the way we pile up books. A neat looking shelf with tons of attitude!

Dirty Linen Goes Straight To The Closet!

Dirty Linen Goes Straight To The Closet!

The notion of dumping laundry in a basket and then taking it out on laundry-day will probably be redundant in the future. All you will need to do is hang your clothes in a specialized closet and await molecular technology to do its thing. The Clean Closet is your laundry basket, washing machine and drying cabinet – all rolled into one. Using its tech, it scans clothes for stains etc and removes it, freshens it (de-odorizes), and that too without using water.

Memory Clip-on

Memory Clip-on

Although I find hanging my USB stick around my neck quite alright, I wouldn’t mind if it came as a clip-on. Something that looked like this Metro USB Clip would be perfect; slip it securely on a pocket. The added advantage of auto backup on second drive, sliding feature and color changeable shells, transforms it from a regular stick to something different.

Beer Energy

Beer Energy

There’s a time before a meal when some people get prepared, get super hungry, get so fantastically ready to eat. This time is called the “appertivo time,” and during this time people drink alcohol. They drink beer. They have a good time. Carlos Zanotti Cavazzoni of Raver Studio had an amazing idea. Why not signify this pre-meal energy with light? How about putting that light in the base of a glass for beer? Fabulous! Completely fabulous and beer-sexy.

Wood Yacht Fantasy

Wood Yacht Fantasy

I almost titled this post “Orange Yacht Fantasy” because the redness in the seats throughout this fabulous ship. It really brings out this yellow tones in the wooden decks, but then I realized, yes, they are wood. And it’s totally sexy. Sexy like a boat is sexy. This is the “Sentori 50 L”, a 50 feet flybridge motor yacht. Its length is 15.3 meters, its beam is 5 meters, its displacement is 18 tons, and it’s got so many features that you’ll be swimming in em. Or you would, but you’ll be on a YACHT.

Stool of Heavy Thinking

Stool of Heavy Thinking

Since the age of the Bauhaus, there have been many advances in the way of architecture and furniture design that lean not in the way of comfort, but in the way of utility instead. This is one of those things, though I don’t doubt that it’s up there amongst the comfortable set of your oddball furniture collection. This is what it’s designer simply calls “Stool”, but what I’ll call “Frnkwz Stool” for identification purposes.

Ten Creative Packaging Concepts

Ten Creative Packaging Concepts

Imagine Ferrero Rocher being sold in plastic wraps instead of the gold foils; totally unappealing! The way you package and present your product really makes an impact on many economic equations and its market presence. Designers understand this only too well, which is why we have so many creative innovations in the packaging sector. In a way Industrial Design and Product Design is quite dependent on Packaging.

A Bowl Of Lumen Flowers

A Bowl Of Lumen Flowers

In Chinese Jing Hua means flowers in the mirror, but here it’s an interactive installation with visual treats. A bowl that captures creative images of flowers, as projected from an overhead birdhouse. By moving and tilting the bowl, the image of an archetypical flower changes: its color, form, size and structure may be manipulated directly. Jing Hua was showcased in the botanical garden in Frankfurt during the light festival LUMINALE 2010. Many people interacted with it to create virtual flowers by tilting, shaking, turning, even knocking!

Clip The Book

Clip The Book

Will it – won’t it; the debate may continue forever, but the truth is, print publication for books is not going to go obsolete. There are far too many booklovers and e-reader does not make any sense to a person who has to choose a week of groceries vs an e-book. Paperback is more affordable. Playing on the sentiment of book reading is the “Forget Me Not Clip”. A gentle, glowing reminder to pick up a book and read it.

Car Height Bike Ride

Car Height Bike Ride

This bike mimics the height at which you sit when you’re in a mid-sized car. That right there is amazing an innovation enough for me to do a post on it, but check it out, there’s more. The seat is also the same back angle and puts you in a place that allows your hands and feet to be in the same position as they’d be in your auto as well. Why? So you’re at eye-level with the rest of the traffic that’s flying around you. And it’s electric, if you want.
