Fishy Muscle Makers

I’ve got to tell you the name of this project first and foremost. Designed by Sun ho, Sin, this project is called “Barbellfish.” It is so very close to the word “Babelfish” that it cannot be denied. Before we discuss the similarities between the fish and this project, we’ve got to discuss this project’s aim: to make it simpler to lift weights! Rather than attaching them to a bar from the sides, these allow for a top-loading weight.

As you can see from the illustration, these weights attack from the top, clicking into place in a quite simple way. Now as for the name: I’m sure you’ve got some knowledge of Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” in which the “Babel fish” is introduced. This fish is inserted into the head of a host through the ear, translating for its host all language to an understandable sound. Kinda like the most epic internet translator of all time, the Yahoo! Babelfish.

But what’s that got to do with the weight? Well! I can only guess since it is not explained by the designer, but if I were a bettin’ man I’d wager a bit on the universal applicability of each weight to a bar.

Squish!
