Foundry at Cologne 2010!

Hooray Cologne! What’s better than a design fair in the spring? A design fair in the spring with Foundry! The design group known as Foundry, an excellent group of folks based in Singapore, just exhibited their new works in imm Cologne 2010 design fair. And wouldn’t you know it, they’ve shared a bit of that lovely tea-time with us! And now we share it with you!

Intravenus de Milo

Intravenus de Milo

That’s how pretty this is! Believe it! Have you ever had the need for an infusion? Perhaps a bag of fresh fluids in your veins to clean you up a little bit, or maybe you’re low on blood? Sometimes when this is a need, you also just happen to be living in New York, where you’re not allowed to sit still for more than a couple minutes or you’ve lost your job and lifestyle! So what do you do? You get a “Hook Man!” Designed by Chaozhi Li, a fabulous inventor who’s got style on the mind as well! When I first saw this design, I thought it was for some Tron body armor!

Rubbish Table!

Rubbish Table!

All you designers know you’re a messy bunch. Give you a table, a pencil, paper, eraser, sharpener and I’m willing to bet an artful pile of trash would build up all over the floors. No need to be a mess cat anymore. The La Gota Table has a hollow leg with a trash bin at the base. The opening is surrounded by ripples to prevent anything from mistakenly rolling in. The timber parts are made from reclaimed lumber and the table top –  a soy based polymer resin with bamboo fillers. HOT! I want one.

Laser Precise Time

Laser Precise Time

The Reflectius Clock by Art Lebedev Studio has a whopping sixty rotating mirrors that successively reflect a single laser beam at precise angles to draw numbers. Complex triangular facets guild the beam to form the current time and showcase the efficiency and preciseness of a laser beam! Totally fascinating…don’t forget to check out the demo.

The Perfect Gift For Your Woman

The Perfect Gift For Your Woman

It’s quite apparent that all ladies will have a soft corner for the Accessories MP3 Player. Honestly, how many MP3 players can be as subtle and discreet as this! Fashion statement, jewelry, bling…you name it, and it’s there! I adore the little loop earring that goes into the ear as headphones, now only if Cartier or Tiffany can get a whiff of this…

Weiqi With No Chess Pieces

Weiqi With No Chess Pieces

The WU& a Chess Set eschews ancient runes and poggles for LEDs. The foldable silica gel chessboard rolls up for portability and if you can’t find a partner, the onboard computer will gladly make a worthy opponent. On another note, I was never able to master this form of chess but LEDs attract me like a moth to a flame so I may try again.

Your Light Slightly Hard

Your Light Slightly Hard

Perhaps you’re familiar with the term “Al Dente?” That’s the term used for noodles that are left just a little bit rigid (but not hard!) when being boiled before being used for a fine dish of spaghetti (or plenty of other lovely pastas.) It’s also the name of a fabulous restaurant in Beirut. The design team at .PSLAB BEIRUT were asked to do the lighting for this “Al Dente” restaurant, and I think you’ll find that it’s absolutely chewy with goodness.

Coolest Fire Possible

Coolest Fire Possible

That’s a fire that has no smoke. That’s a fire that has no odor. That’s a fire that burns bio-alcohol to achieve these things at the SAME TIME as providing you with some fabulous heat. And it looks amazing! No smoke, odor, or residue! None at all! You could burn this right in the house, right by your CPU! Do it! Don’t be foolish and put anything flammable in there, obviously, because it DOES burn other things if you make it, I mean, it IS a fire. But work safely and this’ll make you grin profusely! It’s the Apollo Tabletop Fireplace!

The Lovely Circles

The Lovely Circles

Mmm yes, perhaps you’d enjoy some circles today? Perhaps some fine circles that’d suit your items to be sitting on just fine, yes? Perhaps! Yes! What’s called a lamp and what has a couple trays for your true comfort and ease in experience is this, the “Acueil” by Arnaud Lapierre. The warmth of the lamp is provided by LED. One of the movable plates provides space for immediate objects such as keys, while the large plate is for the longer-sitting objects like the newspaper.

Mouse On A Diet

Mouse On A Diet

If you were to strip off the mouse and bring it to the bare essential, how would you design it? Kim Hye-shin perceives it as a single strip that can be bent into the infinite-sign-shape, with only the necessary features on it. Interesting take, but not for everyone; Bendy M may be a good enough design if your focus is more on the keyboard and use a mouse just as a pointer. But for a mouse that needs to help me do Photoshop, I need substance, grip, the whole nine yards. Then again one man’s medicine is another’s poison!

Sunbeam Designer Series Glass Kettle

Sunbeam Designer Series Glass Kettle

I’m a bit jealous of you Aussies because you guys get this beautiful Sunbeam kettle designed to look like a carafe. Designer David Knott wanted something high-end and functional but to do so meant developing an electronic temperature sensing control to avoid the need for a steam tube up into the handle like most electric kettles. The result is a completely transparent design; modern and sculptural. The handle is chrome plated and the glass body is manufactured by Schott Duran.
