Braun V-Stol Bathing System

For those of you who have nursed an ill or bedridden family member, you’ll agree that giving them a bath is the most time consuming and fragile moment. Transporting them to and from the showers & keeping them steady during the bath can be a draining experience. The Braun V-Stol System looks at cutting the trauma, by providing a refreshing bath right on the patient’s bed. The system consists of an inflatable container in which the patient lays; a shower with hot water at different pressures, a container of water (3 liters capacity) and controls.

DIY Grass Clock

Researching for this article I came across the Treehugger post on Ustatic’s Wall Grass Concept. You must understand this concept before you can digest the Hour///Gras Living Wall Clock. Based on Ustatic’s theory that growing grass at home is beneficial, this concept clock encourages you to grow either grass or other suitable plants in a stainless steel and glass body frame and hang it on a wall. The hour and minute hand pass over the patch of grass and trim it via their sharpened edges and help maintain a pre-set level of grass-blade length.

This year’s EUR 12,000 prize money has been claimed by Johanna Schoemaker for the brilliant Clam I OLED Lamp, and she even gets the opportunity to intern for six-months at The Braun design department. You Speak Too Loud

General rule about public spaces, speaking too loud is akin to invading someone’s personal space. It’s intrusive and sets off a round of evil eyes. I could care less what people think of me which is why this concept came across my desk. “Helmet To Hear Oneself Speak” is a paper helmet you print. Words bounce off the mouth shield into the ear ducts amplifying your volume which is supposed to encourage you to speak softly.

Bikes like this harness wind energy, solar energy, shock energy and muscle power, only to be used at those tough climbs or when you turn lazy! The spoiler of this bike is covered with solar panels and is fixed below the handles of the bike to produce lifting force for lightening the weight of the bike.

The theory behind designing the Selfportrait Chair is very honest and simple. As an introvert, graduate student Ka-Lai Chan found it difficult to express her emotions lest her peers ridicule her. The stifled emotions grew like a nagging tumor and are seen as those odd blobs on this chair. Rarely do we come across an emotional side to a design accurately represented as this! Yea we live in a ruthless competitive world and life sucks, so let’s just express ourselves with design! Cheers!

Outta Space Landing

An artistic way to get across to the Chabot Museum in Rotterdam is through this unique installation bridge called Bruggenhoofd Chabot. Brainchild of Snodevormgevers and Paul Segers, this “Landing Craft” allows you to cross over the hedge from the street, and straight into the museum. Just in case you get claustrophobic in the wooden passage way, take the staircase to the upper deck for a breather. The special effects to the deck are enhanced with a bevy of cables running from the balcony to the museum.

A project that was undertaken to explore Ettore Sottsass’ claim, that design should not merely be functional but additionally be attractive and emotionally appealing. This new version is a take on the original Olivetti Valentine, which was considered as the ultimate fashion accessory for the working girl in late 60’s.

The product you see before you is called the “Human Antenna.” Before I explain how it works, an anecdote shall soften the blow: Today, ironically, my Uncle J said to me “did I ever tell you how my first job was as a channel changer?” – his dad’s channel changer. And not only that, his dad’s antenna too. The same concept is here, but with radio, and it’s the whole point, not just the malfunction!
