Meditating on Cell Phone Power

Meditating on Cell Phone Power

From Industrial Designer Clara Zamboni from the University of Buenos Aires comes this handheld meditation power converter. Imagine Bruce Lee, trapped in the three-door-room after his nun-chuck fight on the island, just sitting there, meditating on his next move. He could have totally been charging his cellphone while he was just chillin! Twiddling thumb.

GPS Guided Dog

GPS Guided Dog

Guide Dogs for the blind folks generally come trained for taking them around the neighborhood and maybe an extra distance. This surely curtails mobility and independence in case they want to explore more than their usual territory. The Peepo GPS Device gives these people a certain degree of freedom to travel beyond the normal route. The GPS system charts the course and guides the dog to the desired destination using a series of vibrations to steer him.

The World Through My Eyes

The World Through My Eyes

How would images look if we captured them on a camera that was based on the Human Eye? Taking into consideration our field of vision, optical sensory and the brain’s perception of images, George Milde has developed the Human Eye Camera. This device combines modern technology with digital postproduction. When the light hits the “eye” of the camera, it is spread via a prism onto three arrange-able sensors. And like the digitalized version, this one too offers the RAW format, which is variable in focus and focal length.

Erasing Darkness

Erasing Darkness

The big push takes the place of the little switch with this new light device by Steffen Kehrle and Julia Landsiedl for Moree. Apparently it’s difficult to dim these new energy-saving lightbulbs. They be bright. Ths solution these two designers have here is to literally block the light, the object replicating the look of a push-out eraser with a paper cover. Don’t worry though, this is made of aluminum.

Better than Skates or Skateboards; It’s Even Got Brakes

Better than Skates or Skateboards; It’s Even Got Brakes

It’s not a half-baked attempt to tout a new Segway and neither is it replacing the rollerblades; StepGlider is in a league of its own. Using the natural swagger of us humans as its inspiration, this new kind of travel mode guarantees stability as it causes a linear locomotion which gives us a sense of safety. As Thomas describes it, “The momentum is caused by the correlation between walking and a force among the hands and a gearbox, through which an accelerated movement is obtained.”

Animate For Obesity? I Don’t Think I Agree!

Animate For Obesity? I Don’t Think I Agree!

One of the reasons behind developing the Animate project was to motivate the obese-TV-Video Games-addicted-generation to move their butt and get some exercise. I don’t buy that theory. My point is, if Wii Sports couldn’t get me toned and slim, then nothing can! However, besides this Animate is cool gadget that kids on the block would love. It’s got a camera, MP3 player, watch band, communication feature and videogames.

Shape Changing Plate Washer and Drier

Shape Changing Plate Washer and Drier

This thing right here is a rollercoaster for plates. Not only does it catch plates on a conveyer belt, wash, and dry them, it converts them to whatever shape you wish – plate, bowl, whatever! Using Electrostatic Flocking, the shapes of these dishes can be changed. Each plate changes shape via electrostatic contact points and can thus they can be washed and stacked with supreme simplicity.

How Many Pushups Does Your Battery Do?

How Many Pushups Does Your Battery Do?

Me? I can do 20 reps at the most, but my Energizer does plenty more…or so says the guys at Mint Design. Although I haven’t seen the ad, apparently once there was this one, which showed a battery come out and do about a million pushups; to show how long it worked. That left an impression enough on the designers to come up with this Pushup Mint Battery #2. Now it’s designed for no apparent reason, but purely for the fun of pitching one battery against the other, to see who emerges the winner!

Balls Clean My Air, Seriously!

Balls Clean My Air, Seriously!

These “Air Balls” as I call them, are purifiers you can move room to room. They use a form of ionization with a photocatalyst complex sterilizing collection technology. Por que? This enables the unit to not only filter the air of fine particles, smoke and odors but also eliminates nasty bacteria and viruses. An active carbon filter even removes nasty gases like formaldehyde and VOC’s. The whole contraption doubles as lighting and the design is supposed to fit in any decor. The display stand is actually a snazzy charging cradle.
