You will never find a more chilled out radio than this. “Radio Valerie.” No buttons, no switches. At least none that are immediately apparent. Reveal to yourself the simplicity. To tune the radio, pull the antenna back and forth along the station markers. The speaker face turns the radio on, the speaker face turns it off, and the speaker face controls the volume. And of course the antenna increases the signal reception. Super chill.

In the name of salvaging individual identity, mintselect @ mintpass has designed a range of devices in the typographical form of their function. Called the “Used as Read” series, the stackable lineup includes a speaker, a remote control, a woofer, a music player and amp, a radio and a lamp.

The camera is one gadget that gets me jittery. We have come a long way from the pin hole to the digitalized era; but the abundant options and navigations in the current ones leave me all confused. One time, I almost managed to ruin my African Safari photographs coz I forgot to switch the focus from manual to automatic! However, here is a look at ten concept cameras for the future that are conspiring to leave me as the amateur photographer, while you folks become the pro.

Next trip to the lake, don’t carry a tent to pitch, instead hire out an ingenious Kahuna. This is an open top outrigger kayak that converts into a tent with ease. It features a Mirage Drive pedal/crank mechanism designed by Hobie Kayaks, plus an ordinary paddle to assist in maneuvering the boat. Detachable, folding seats make way for spacious comfy interiors, when pitched as a tent. The all-in-one takes away the bother of carrying extra loads.

I have heard of this restaurant where they serve food in total darkness. The reason behind it is that, when we block our visual perception our other senses get heightened, thereby making the meal experience more enjoyable. On a similar pattern is the SENSE tableware, which consists of Scent Flowers, Hot Stone Plates, Palate Cleansers and a Hot Ice Tea Ceremony.

We’ve done a post or two in the past about them (as you can see if you clicked the link,) but always about their arm-clocks. What we’ve got here today is a real-deal, honest to god spinoff of the Nooka brand! About 15 years ago, a fashion designer exhibited a line of clothes that folded into books. It was a new paradigm for dressing. I can’t for the life of me remember his name but the Minimax concept by Marc Illan triggered a flashback when I was inspired to study the math and art behind origami. The “foldable shoe” idea, tho not original, is explored really well here. A simple urban slip-on that looks great. There are advantages for both consumers and retailers from being able to fold it flat for storage. It’s a reduction in material waste and packaging. Brills!

Monster, speedster, trailblazer, mean-machine; these are the general adjectives that accompany an automotive post on YD. Rarely do we get treated to a feminist outlook on a industry that is predominantly male. Maybe this is why I won’t be as candid as AJ was in this post, but honestly, if designers spin a yarn for their designs and back them up with strong renders/sketches; the equation just doesn’t sit well with the public. All I get from this BMW Pixie is that will look good in the next Midsummer’s Night Dream Production!

One of the biggest bnummers of any sport is the fear of injury from falls and winter sports are no different. Here is a jacket that proposes to act as a protective gear against those accidental slips on the ice, which can be really painful. The design includes an impact chamber filled with water and air that acts as a cushioning. On impact, the air is pushed up the back channel and into the dissipation chamber situated around the jacket’s neck, inflating it. Wear it and show off your stunts, without fear!

Looks like a cut out of a stairwell! And what are stairs good for? Putting things on. The “+Chair”, designed by So Young Park, is basically a place for putting some candles on. But don’t start your hair on fire. Maybe some books are a better idea! Also the chair comes apart at all the edges, so it can be transported quite easily.

Video killed the radio star, but I think digital players did more damage. Call me old fashioned if you like, but I still prefer the randomness of a radio station, you can never really know which song they will play next. The Muji Bath Radio by Industrial Facility is perfect for eccentrics like me and to top it off, it serenades as a shampoo bottle! The controls are at the bottom and the top twists left or right as volume adjustment. Me really wants this…but fret… its available only in Japan.
