		<description>I suppose the comment about unused batteries could have been Yanko&#039;s misunderstanding. A switch might be used to stop a device from using (typically a tiny trickle) of standby power, if it does not already have a physical switch built in on the outside of the device. For many devices and battery chemistries the standby current is probably small compared to the self-discharge rate anyway.

But what devices are we talking about here? If you can be bothered cracking open the case, flicking a switch the batteries, replacing the case, then repeating the process again when you decide you want want to use the device, presumably you are putting the device into storage for a very long time. Why not just the batteries out altogether while you have the device open?</description>
