Speaking as a violinist of 10 years, this instrument is nothing like a violin. The proportions different, the bow is extremely thick, and the fingerboard is curved to a ridiculous degree. Not only does this promote improper technique (which is paramount on an instrument where a mere 16ths of an inch can make a difference of a semi-tone), but it teaches the player to play on a completely different instrument. If the purpose of this was to counter the “huge learning curve” of the violin, then Carlos, you have failed miserably. The squidolin will NOT help people learn the violin. Although it may show merit as an instrument in its own right, it will never be an effective stepping ladder for people to want to take up the violin.

Hi can I see and hear how it plays and sound, It looks nice but small, and it doesn’t show how it holds the strings at both ends

Dude – I would be worried that the bow is too thick… looks like it doesn’t have enough give or flexibility – looks awesome… but the violin is already a hard instrument to learn — trying to learn it on a Klingon Battle violin like that just might make it even that much harder… doesn’t even seem like a full size fiddle.

As a violin player, this looks intriguing. My concern would be the sound, but also the difficulty to play- the article appears to imply that it is easier to play, but I’m not sure…
That, and it looks like it would be a pain to change strings or re-hair the bow (if that’s even hair)… maybe the strings are metal slides?
I’d be very interested to handle one before purchasing or supporting, but it definitely looks awesome.
