One should be awoken gently. The best designed alarm clock(s), I know of, are the Zen Timepiece and Zen Alarm Clock available at http://www.now-zen.com.

No snooze bar. They both work under similarily though I prefer the Zen Timepiece which rings a six inch brass bowl; “the long-resonating gong strikes just once … then automatically, it strikes again in 3-1/2 minutes … then in 2 minutes … then in 1 minute … As shown in the chart below, the gong strikes gradually increase over 10 minutes, eventually striking every 5 seconds until turned off.”

The clock is also beautiful to look at.

I don’t think the motion of lifting up the ball is enough to wake me up. I try to position my alarm clock out of arms reach to have to make myself move from the covers and lifting the alarm clock to see the time. I am still able to go back to sleep. I really wish there was an alarm clock that guarantees that I wake up at the set time.

BUT it is very aesthetically pleasing and the displayed date.
