Let me give this to you straight…. not all of us are Edmund Hillary to climb high mountains and neither are we adept enough to traverse every nook and crevice to gather data for research. Carbon Emissions and greenhouse gases are environmental issues that keep hounding us. We need to monitor our glaciers in order to predict our eco-future. Tribot offers a safe alternative to keeping a tab on them and researchers can catch the action from a secure distance.

Designer and Architect Andreas Angelidakis released a couple renders on his New Menir house, which I call an island rock. Nevermind the interior or geologic design, check out the rooftop! This “floral umbrella” opens up to capture the suns free energy but when it becomes windy or when night falls, turns into a wind turbine. How adorable!

Water conservation is still one of the easiest ways to save energy (yes energy!) and preserve our planet. Fresh water only accounts for 3% of all water on Earth but 1% of it is frozen so in that sense, it’s quite rare. The +Shifter faucet uses the perception of a car’s gearbox to change how much water we use. Instead of changing gear ratios, each position correlates to how much water flows out.

Fresh Blow is a product designed to replace boring mundane air fresheners with something fun and energetic! You blow up a balloon thru an aromatic capsule and release it. As the balloon whizzes around frantically, fresh aromatics fill your room.

This is not some new solar powered gadget, this is a product that can revolutionize the way we produce and store energy. The surface of the table is covered in highly efficient photovoltaic cells that collect solar energy all year and then “feeds” the home with precious “clean” electrical energy.

This is one living concept that’s all about conservation. The Napkins Calendar inspires you to only use one cleaning device per 24 hour period. Right? Maybe not.
Napkins Calendar reminds me of a similar project made by my friend and associate Dylan Lathrop. Mr. Lathrop’s project was a collection of stickers that had their “stuck on” date printed on them. The result of the project: reflection.

And now for something completely different? I’d say this was a strange play on recent “keep your non-green riches a secret” trends, but it’s been in the works for a while. North Carolina State University’s craftspeople have got one amazing looking machine on their hands, and I dare say they’ve chosen the best time, (economically and green-wise,) to come this close to completion.

Earbuds for iPod and gang are good enough, but in the interest of avoiding ear damage, its always advisable to hear your music over normal speakers at least when you are at home. There are many options available in the market but the Designit Concept takes an edge because it offers the option of cluster or standalone.

Almost everyone is feeling the economic pinch as our global economy goes straight to hell but consumers are at the tail end of this trickle down effect. Queue the modest product design company. They want to keep designing aesthetically pleasing products but people aren’t going to buy it. It’s clear utilitarianism will be making a comeback and the Kettle Qp is one of the firsts to embrace that trend.

The Grid Chair by Jaebeom Jeong may look like something straight out of Solidworks but it’s a real chair. The design is inspired by industrial super structures, scaffolding, and stainless steel. The result is something eerily modern but intriguing because of all the exposed “work.” At least your bum will be happy thanks to the walnut black satin stained seat.

Kengo Kuma has designed two prefabricated houses for Muji They are small, simple, beautiful, can come in many variations, are made of standardized kits of parts, and are generic in a very Zen kind of way. Just like the rest of Muji’s stuff! Both house prices start around $200,000 USD, so it’s definitely the Muji of architecture.
