Well, depending on where you draw the line between a rework and a new design, I think its a whole new kind of folding mechanism. (And the patent office agrees) There is no sliders in the chair actually.
As for materials, the low cost version is polyurethane plastic and aluminium. I know these are not the most environmentally friendly materials, but both are recyclable, and strength of the construction makes for a really long product life. It is difficult to avoid plastic in this kind of furniture.
I have built one i laminated beech and alu, and it looks great, feels great and weighs nothing.

Thank you. As for the cart, its really just a piece of plywood with wheels and a bent steeltube for the handle. Couldn't be simpler.

Thanks for the kind words. Send me you email and I’ll post a link to a video for you.<br

If someone designed a mechanical feature I do think it would be nice to at least have a short and simple animation to display its folding in action. I can figure it out by dissecting the photos, but I shouldn't have to. Also, the carts would be sold with a stack of chairs right? I wouldn't want to pick a new chair for my auditorium to find out that in order to make them fit in my storage room, I need the designer cart as well... Great job Jens, really! ;-)

It looks beautiful and it might be able to become reality.
