Well, depending on where you draw the line between a rework and a new design, I think its a whole new kind of folding mechanism. (And the patent office agrees) There is no sliders in the chair actually. As for materials, the low cost version is polyurethane plastic and aluminium. I know these are not the most environmentally friendly materials, but both are recyclable, and strength of the construction makes for a really long product life. It is difficult to avoid plastic in this kind of furniture. I have built one i laminated beech and alu, and it looks great, feels great and weighs nothing. Thank you.
