The whole religion thing completely aside...

What defines this "secret"?

I'm willing to bet that more often than not, people will be spilling profanities and verbal vandalism into these things, spouting hate messages and rumours.

And so, when people listen to these things, it just becomes a forest of metal poles swearing at you. How do you explain to children not to repeat the language they heard from the poles? Why does our society need another outlet for anonymous discrimination and hate crimes?

I think it's good in utopia, but not in the real streets.

And now a second voice of reason (Unless there are more below that I haven't seen or read yet)...

I agree with you, Eric, and I have my own two cents to add as to the vital function here. ...I only thought of a real use just now when I read these two posts.

Everyone has sins and random tidbits they'd never tell their family or friends... perhaps something incriminating or perhaps not. ...They say the truth will set you free, and I myself have found comfort in confessing to people.

I can't say I believe this is a good idea or a bad idea, but it is true that simply stating something to the world might lift the burden. I for one do NOT have a "spiritual leader" to confess to and don't blow cash on a shrink. For someone like me, this would be the perfect method with which to confess stressful things while keeping full anonymity that even the internet can't bring...what with IP addresses and such.

It's a really entertaining/interesting idea to think of. But if you've ever been to a secrets website, they're really depressing/sad and are even worse if you're a paranoid person, and you'll end up trusting nobody. And they definitely should not be accessible by children (not that I care).

Secrets are meant to be secrets, especially in an age where you hardly can keep anything to your own due to matters of national security or how the internet become a group fuck fest for everyone to share all of their dirty shit or to create dirty shit in there.

But it's a quite interesting idea.

First of all not everyone is a "believer." So don't tell me the "trustworthy" spiritual leader is more qualified than a psychiatrist actually is. Second these are giant recorders, not life coaches. Nowhere does it say you recieve "advice" back upon sharing your secret with a stranger. If YOU want to keep your crap a secret then do it, I personally don't want to hear what you think you're forced to say into these things. Who says everyone has to admit their affairs here? (and if they wanted to, wth should you care?) Just cause it's a secret listener you automatically equate that to a confessions box, and the two aren't even analogous, at all. So eat your own advice and keep religion out of this!

I have a secret to share with everyone: Design is not a religion.

Actually, I have a better name for this err "Design": "Gossip Factory". Or possibly "Rumor Mill", but that's even more obvious. Religion, as problematic as they are, at least set moral and ethical boundaries. Once we begin replacing Higher powers with human BS like design and science this is what we get. Design as religion would wreak havoc.

We as humanity have better things to do than stand around listening to random peoples secrets. Secrets are personal. That's why they are secrets. If you have a secret that you just have to get off your chest go see your most trusted Spiritual Leader. This person is far more qualified to get you through your personal dilemma than some gradeschooler you've never met.

I really like this idea, especially if it were to be international. What exactly stops people from saying litterally anything in it though? Some might be "im not wearing underwear," but what if some poeple go too far? I do see kids in the render.....
