Pulp making plus shaping them in a mold uses more energy then just washing a normal plate. Plus paper plates en cups are not special or new. Mostly buy them for party uses when you dont have enough plate at home. However these version look much prettier but still is not really environmentally better.

as they say in the trade “fiber is fiber” so it matters little if its georgia pine or reeds. Bambo does have a bit of a edge as its growth rate is very high, but then again can depleate the soil.

not sure about energy savings, consider refine that cane or bamboo left over, and all that glue that goes into pressing it into thin sheets.

anyway, As far as i’m concerned these are just designer paper plates and well designed at that. (the japanese know what they’re doing!) but at $11 for 12 plates, im not busting these out unless the pope shows up!

If these take about as much water and energy as washing a regular plate I am switching! I hope the makers make their plates available through subscription.
