Lots of lessons, many failures too (its said failures are one of the things that you truly own)so let me get some stuff togeather.

Working on it, I had one a few years ago but make a desicision to focus on one real big project (one that i thought would take about 18 months, took 4 years) and so I let it go stale. It might give some insight into "unobtrusive design". I don't agree with it 100%, but interesting nevertheless.

Have a read of Naoto Fukasawa and Jasper Morrison’s book “Super Normal”. Generally when someone says something is obtrusive, it is meant in a good way. Obtrusive is being noticed when you don't want something to be. Obtrusive is being in the way. I would say that inobtrusive should be on the list, with the caveat that what is defined as actually being obtrusive (or inobtrusive) is subject to opinion. Good design is about being able to walk the line between the two and have the people that you are designing for fall into the inobtrusive side.

I think it all comes down to the intention of how the word obtrusive is used. In your face or not design, it all depends on whom your designing for in the end beacause people are exchanging their sweat for it.
Times are a changing, how much and for how long its hard to say. This is the second "green" revolution, the other was back in 73 and it also was coupled to a short nasty ressession/stagflation. The last one did change things for a while, but people are people, they like stuff so a lot of good work languished.
I will figure out how put up some of my stuff. The majority of it will be a combination of ID, PDD and invention if thats ok with you.

Wow, you all have brought a tear to the old flat fish’s eye, so much well thought out and passionate commentary.
