[...] It’s been said that our most powerful sense is the sense of smell and that the scent of a fond memory can stay with you forever—like homemade cookies from when you were a kid, or the way that that she smelled the first time you kissed… But you probably never thought you’d be telling the time based on smell alone.
the point is it doesn´t need to be precise. if it´s visual or audio input it needs to be precisely. if it´s smell it´s definetely the wrong attribute for this way to perceive time ..

I think this is really interesting. I'd love it if I didn't have to rely on my watch to tell time...but rather just take a big whiff :)

Carl von Linné's clock was a garden based on flowers opening up on the hour. Yes this will be more precise because it releases the scent on the hour, exactly. And I fully agree with you, holding a capsule over toast wont fill your house with toast smell a few hours later... That needs some work, but telling time by smelling is still just as intriguing as it was 263 years ago.

more precisely by smell? wrong attribute for this way to perceive time.
and you don´t release any remarkable scent by toast crumbs, only if this clock is right in your face ..

Yes but this makes the system more precise than flowers opening up on the hour, and the option to swap out scents for those other than flowers. They may have been inspired by it, but they created a self contained, scent telling clock with options.
