Often in a society of excess, (or depression, as it were,) the tendency is to provide as much precise detail in look and control as possible. Brian Garret Schuur has created a television remote that’s just the opposite. Schuur has reduced the channel, volume, pause, play, record, and power into one control button with his frankly titled “Single Button Remote.”

Auto designers have been toying with the idea of three-wheeled transports for some time now and this latest concept by Higgins-Aubé called ENERGYA is pretty much another attempt at it. This side-by-side two seater is legally considered in most jurisdictions a “motorcycle”, eliminating most of the mandatory automobile systems and components that weigh down and increase the price of regular 4-wheeled automobiles.

This pendant lamp from Lucie Koldova is dubbed Orbital Light for obvious formal reasons, but all I know is that it should have been in 2001: a Space Odyssey. The LED diodes that line the inside of the ribs cast a kind of omnidirectional glow on all nearby surfaces, giving the interior a very futuristic ambient light. The project was apparently designed for grand-scale interiors and halls, but maybe my kitchenette would also be appropriate.

Move over cheap radio alarm clock because for the past month I’ve been trying out the Etón P’9120 designed by the venerable Porsche Design company – yes the same one that makes those uber sexy cars. If music is your ace then you’ll be happy to know it handles nearly all digital delivery forms, including docking up with your iPod, Touch, and iPhone, radio, and integrated XM satellite. There’s even a built-in subwoofer and of course, 2 separate alarms because you never wake up on the first alarm.

Ever looked at a magnified snowflake? It is truly remarkable how detailed and unique each snowflake is and how their individual designs can never be replicated. This magical creation of nature is the inspiration behind the design Save Your Ice. Croatian designer; Ljiljana Tutnjevic created the Save Your Ice design as a subtle reminder of the current Global Warming issues.

Los Angeles is stereotyped as a “health city” but the reality is it’s far from it. Sure there’s a salad bar for every McDonalds but there are also smokers and accompanying them are cigarette butts and ash. I’m not going to preach how terrible smoking is but I will say have the decency to at least properly dispose of your ciggy waste properly. The public streets are not free territory for filth. The BUG ash tray was designed for those that need a quick hit without being a mess cat. Keep your butts and ash inside the metal case and empty it when you get home.

I sure do. It’s about the size of a credit card and powered by a small cell. Flip up the lightbulb shaped cut-out to switch on the soft, mellow, glow of bliss. What’s the point? Novel – next time you have a bright idea, you can have an actual lightbulb “bling!” on.

I hate getting behind a bus in traffic! The nasty, smelling, diesel fuel exhaust smoking up the road in front of me. It stinks, and pollutes the air around me. No wonder we have so much pollution in bigger cities that are filled with these pollution machines. Yet, how can we live without them? Easy, just ask Volvo. Volvo has created the Volvo 7700, the first hybrid bus that is promising major green delivery. The 7700 promises to reduce fuel consumption by 30% – a perfect solution to the rising fuel prices.
3D printing has become an incredibly powerful tool to customize one-off products for differing applications. This project was based on using this technology to design a customized prosthetic leg for a specific user- a young, urban, male athlete. Nike was chosen as an appropriate brand to bring form to the leg. It also required familiarizing oneself with the emotional, medical, lifestyle, and physical changes the user would encounter.
