Embrace Your Femininity
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Most of us know someone who has suffered from breast cancer, and may have unfortunately had to have a mastectomy because of that. When women lose a part of their body that has always made them feel beautiful, they tend to lose a certain sense of confidence and femininity. In honor of Breast Cancer Survivors, I want to introduce to you, Lumitact. Lumitact is a design by Stephanie Choplin who realizes the importance of holding on and embracing our feminine side. Lumitact is an adhesive, tactile breast prosthesis that integrates Phillips’ Lumalive material into its design. Instead of feeling embarrassed by the un-natural feel of a breast prosthesis, Lumitact will make a woman feel self-confident, sexy and feminine once again.
Designer: Stephanie Choplin

Texts from the designer:
“Lumitact” is a virtual and a tactile breath prosthesis. Made of luminous textile,
observer can play with animated virtual entities. Animation give the feeling
that the prosthesis is not sluggish any more. Luminescent shapes are continually
moving lovingly. This movement is an invitation to touch and play sensually.
The prosthesis extend from the breath to the haunch of the woman to guide
the partner’s hand toward the whole body. An tender amorous game starts when
the prosthesis is touched. The shapes slide softly toward the zone touched,
like the shiver of a caress on the skin. The prosthesis is immobilized by an adherent system.

hum… I don’t feel it, sorry. Too sci-fi.

So a woman goes from losing a breast to having a fake one with lights on it? I’m not sure how appealing this may be. It might be fun as an undergarment, though.

This is an interesting concept no doubt. I’d like to have seen just a little market/demographic research. I guess this is this for girls under 35 who have had mastectomies and make over $250,000yr?

I like this project a lot. Beyond the form and technologies employed, it is a new vision of the woman and femininity.
And it is brilliant that designers consider these thorny questions and bring these kind of answers as poetic as original. Thx
