It's not wifi: it uses WiTricity to power the tiles and transmit informations, regarding position on the surface, amount of heat etc. Tiles can't be operated independently from the dedicated surface. In order to doing such a thing it would require battery and control interface on every single tile, adding complexity, size and weight. Unluckily it didn't make it's way to the top 9 of the Competition ;-). Thanks.
