Who knew people hated plastic drink bottles so much?
* require less energy to manufacture than either realistic alternative (glass or aluminium)
* require *much* less energy to recycle
* despite chain emails trying to trick people into polluting, they *are* re-usable many times
* once upon a time the idea of lightweight materials that didn't rot was very exciting for designers, so we added lots of stabilisers to plastics. Now we've stopped doing that for disposable items, if it does go into landfill instead of recycling, it will break down within a couple of years. In contrast, aluminium takes centuries to break down and glass never does.

Having said all that, the dumbbell idea is a flop. Dumbbells are made of iron instead of water for a good reason! More to the point, because dumbbells aren't adjustable (that's what the "dumb" bit means), they come in sets which start off at some small weight, and you gradually work your way up as you get stronger.

If you were only buying one, you would want something near the middle of your range, and as others have said 0.5 kg is too light. Most dumbbell kits start at 1 kg minimum. I have seen a set that started at 0.5 kg, but that's the absolute lightest for the raw beginner: within a week or so you would be moving onto the next weight.

Too light to be useful...heh, needless to say you won't have 2 bottles at a time like the picture.

Still plastic, still won't spend much more time in your hand before it goes to a landfill. It's obviously targeting those stupid gym kids with their vitamin drinks...what happened to good old natural fruit juices?

Needless to say, the design is ugly as hell. Is it even necessary to have a small silhouette picture of the object on it's label? It's not like the actual thing wasn't hideous enough already.
