[...] I came across this innovative invention whilst stumbling. It was found on Yanko Design: Form Beyond Function. I think this would work here in Calgary, if those mechanisms and handles wouldn’t freeze up! I hate going to the bus stop and having to stand and stare at a bench covered in snow… but, somehow, I think these benches may just work in warmer climates. Click for Link>>> [...]

Whaaat? That's crazy! I live in Canada and if those handles and the mechanism didn't freeze up this would be absolutely fantastic for all the snow on benches!

I think this idea is super awesome. Very inovative. My personal ideas and solutions to some of these issues would be to ditch the crank unless it is intended to promote manual labor :P But, I think it would be cool if the edges of the bench weren't as rounded. Just a little, to keep comfort, but also to eliminate a litle of that dripping idea of the water from top to bottom. Oh right, maybe instead of a cranck, it can be automated to rotate with sensors knowing when it is wet and when it isn't raining... And to power them to rotate they could use solar panels or something within the seating? I dunno, just a thought. As for a brake so people wouldn't roll others off if you intend to keep the crank, maybe you could make it so that there is an automatic brake when there is someone seated on the bench. Kudos on the idea though. Very nice. I'm inspired :)
