I can’t really tell from this post or even the designers homepage, but I assume this is a concept? How would it work? Would be super sweet if this was a real product!

I think we both know why mandarin: we must have hi tech gadgets that cost at least 50 dollars to perform a task. Otherwise, the task isn’t worth performing.

Seriously though, I agree. This is rather pointless, as most people I know aren’t using a toaster every morning. Plus, this toaster has only one slot and that piece of toast blows. It’s just an inferior toaster with a piece of paper on it…

OK, let me know when you can actually BUY this. Until then, I have a lot “design ideas” that are a lot more interesting then writing on toast.

This thing is like a gym membership. A good idea, but something you’ll never use once you have it. Though I’d probably buy it anyways.

Pretty nice, these aren’t really produced though, are they? I can’t imagine how the writing surface on the top could reasonably be reproduced/burned/charred onto the toast inside, which is not to say it’s not doable.

Anyway, I think the pen sticking out of the center top is a bad idea, if someone knocks into it, it may break the point off or damage the toaster. I’d suggest a ‘port’ along the side similar to the slot along the side of a Palm Pilot to store the pen when not in use, and you can give me a measly 20% of the profits when these things go into production.

Not that you can eat it, but you can already do this with a Sharpie.

How about this: edible markers. Does away with the issue of how to actually get the message on there, and allows for many more possibilities than toast. Though I still think that leaving an important note on a writing surface that likely will not even exist very long seems a little unintelligent.

Horizontal toasters do not work for obvious reasons, heat. This only toasts one piece at a time. Assuming you want to eat the toast it will have to be reasonably toasted prior to etching in a darker toast for the txt. will this no burn the toast?

This is mindless tat from a digital designer who has not had the foresight to see it past the concept stage. Any designer of merit will test the process before putting their pipe dreams out.

Socially it kills conversation, its tech for the sake of tech. mindless tat, a gimmick a gadget.

You made my day. I actually thought I would read 158 comments without anyone actually thinking about the feasibility of this concept.

Besides, I’m a the only one that puts other stuff ON the toast? If you are going to see the message for 2 seconds – why not just say it? This is a product that if real would retail for $200-300, be used twice, and go to your closest landfill. Oh and by the way – I just solved the environment problems. It’s actually very simple – don’t buy stupid crap you don’t need.

a better product would be a or pen to write on toast, pancakes, waffles, bagels, and post it notes !

This item is merely an inane counterspace-taker-upper:
While it could be considered practical if you weren’t going to see the person
AT breakfast and simply TELL THEM…
1. Who can read with toast that close to your face????
2. What if you cover the toast with something else, like butter and jelly or peanut butter, eggs and bacon, spam or ketchup?
3. If you want to leave someone a message on their food, isn’t cake decorating gel a much more practical way to go? I mean, think abou tit, and it takes up about 3 x .50 inches in your refrigerator, comes in great colors AND is edible, takes up no counterspace AND costs fractions of pennies and you could write messages on Pancakes which sit ON the plate and only get lifted to the face area once they are cut up and soaked in syrup anyway.

On the other hand, it is kinda romantic for newlyweds even if they only used it for one year and then gave it away to their next set of “marrying” friends.

Not cost effective or practical enough for me to spend what it would cost to replace my toaster ($300) to get only 1 piece of toast per message, plus 3M already makes a good product: sticky notes!!!! which are cheaper and come in great attention-getting colors and wouldn’t waste half a loaf of bread if I had more than 1 or 2 messages.

This must exist in every household in America.

actually its pretty practical, you can just eat the toast when youre done with the note,

I think its a great idea. Gimmicky it may be, but for all you naysayers who harp on about how useless and irrelevant it seems to you, think outside the tiny little box for a minute.

Commercially something like this could be great – hotels and commercial kitchens could toast their logos or good morning messages on the bread.

Who cares if it gets covered in jams and spreads – the amusement would be a talking point and talk is promotion. Plus its an unexpected surprise so i see the value in it. But i guess I’m creative. And who wants a freakin’ real post-it-note stuck to their bread.

As for it’s functional application in its current state, I think I would need to undergo some modifications to make production worthwhile. Functional modifications for EG: Ability to invert the design so it toasts where you haven’t written as an option. Ability to toast multiple pieces at a time.

Edible pens and markers are useless if you have to replicate the same design. Similar things already exist at specialty cake shops. Noone is goin to write on the rough surface of toast with something like an edible substance, unless its the chosen spread.

And for the people who keep asking if this product is real or not, and how much it is, if you even bothered reading the rest of the page, you’d have your answers.
