There is a seam and a 'latch' system completely exposed, its not intended to fool anyone. Just think of it as a place to store things that disrupt your decor, or a place to clear things off the table if you need to use it. I imagine storing magazines and remotes for the TV inside it. To think that this could be a realistic problem for parents with secretive teens is just silly and should not be the focus of criticism for this piece. You do admit at the end they will still hide it anyway! I could see this serving some people quite well. Everyone has different needs, thats why in the description it says adults can use this to hide stuff from visitors.
