I love it. I would eat that toast. It would be great if you liked waking up to the smell of warm bread. You could also develop some special aromatherapy toast (please no GMO, yuck!). It would be a post-Glad�, pro-food masterpiece.

This websites’ site phrase is “form beyond function” which might also imply form before function. So in the context this design sits it isn’t in the least out of place. I agree with worf and practicality isn’t always considered when you have all these fancy materials and shading options when rendering. Sometimes the urge to see a final render before the design is even completed lends to it’s lack of practicality

That’s why it’s called “concept” products. People use them to try out new ideas and possible innovations, then use them to gauge responses. It’s a way of testing ideas without having to actually commit to anything (marketing research, etc). So yes, they will have practicality issues as practicality is not part of a concept product. If a concept product doesn’t raise any interest, then it’s dropped and then questions on how to retrieve the toast are moot.

You may have heard of “concept cars” full of interesting technology, but that will never make it into production. Sure they may be cool, but like your questions, there may be serious practicality issues. (I saw in the 80′s a drive-by-wire system where the driver used a joystick. Cool, yes, but not very practical (legalities, retraining, usage questions, etc).

I sort of getting tired of “concept” products that are not designed thoroughly, or half way there. There are a lot of unknowns not thought about.
How do you grab the toast when it’s hot?
How do you open it when hot?
What material is it made of?
Would it ruin pictures above it or wallpaper?
Where do I bring power? hanging cable?

This shows a typical design half way done.
Which can render the design impossible to manufacture or finish as a project.
